WHAT WE DO: YOUTH REHABILITATION
As the number of minors in prison steadily increased, PRODEV launched into action, to improve conditions for youth who might never see life beyond bars. In 2006, PRODEV launched a primary school and education certificate program for youth in prison. This program operated successfully from 2006-2010. On January 12, 2010, a 7.0 earthquake destroyed the prison and the program was put on hold.
For the 2011-2012 school year, PRODEV partnered with the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti to provide elementary education for female minors in the Petion Ville Rehabilitation Center. From 2011 to 2012, PRODEV also collaborated with the European Union and the Direction de l'Administration Pénitentiaire (DAP) in the Carrefour Rehabilitation Center, to provide psychological support and vocational education for detained minors.
Due to changes in leadership and a lack of funding, PRODEV was not able to continue this program for the 2012-2013 school year.
